No problem, as soon as you forgive you never think of it again, difficult but very doable.

Many times that is not the case. Many times the people or companies or whatever that we need to forgive are in front of us daily. You think about those things that you need to forgive, and you see that those who have wronged you are still around and never admitting any wrong doing. In some cases a person does not even know that you know of the act that you must forgive but many other people know of the situation.

The forgiveness in this case is a daily challenge, daily prayer, daily exposure to the situation in your own mind, a daily struggle totally internal. I was once told by a counselor that I had to deal with more on a daily basis than anyone he had ever talked to. The only thing which can do anything to relieve that situation is total forgiveness, daily.

That forgiveness issue again.

Someone hurt one of my kids today, that really brings the forgiveness issue to the forefront.

Whatever happens to you in the normal and routine issues in your life are reduced to nothing when someone hurts one of your kids. He told me they were releasing 7200 cfs soon and the river level would rise substantially. I drove by the river this morning and as it approached the Curtis Falls it began to speed up and became a rageing torrent.
I thought of the verses in scripture where the Israelites were carrying the Arc of the Covenant and came to the Jordan River. Unless you knew you would think they stepped into a stream with 6 inches of water and it was not a big deal. God told them if they would step into the river he would part the waters. This is often used as an example of a step in faith where we need to take the first step and then God will help us to cross the river in front of us.
The Israelites stepped into a river much like the Hudson is right now, it was a big deal and a big step in faith. We have to remember that God never fails us, if we will take that step, even if it is into a Rageing Torrent, He will be there for us.

Too much snow

I have so much snow in my yard I can't see over the banks. I am sure everyone is the same way, we have things we like to do to get the yard in the condition we want it. I blow a path to the garage side door, and clean out in back of the house and shovel out the cellar windows. The gas tank has to be cleaned out, and I shovel the snow from the side of the house so it won't melt and run in the cellar.
It seems like lately I am struggling just to keep the driveway open so I can get the car out. The snow piles are high, and there is little room left to put the snow. If I had a payloader and truck I could haul it all away and make more room, but I don't have such things. I raked the rest of the leaves, put the weedeater in the cellar. Took care of the leaf blower, the limb saw, the trimmers, and put them all where it is warm. I put the bags of lime and turf builder in the cupboard (winter won't hurt them). I moved the lawn mower to the back of the garage and put the snowblower up by the door ready to take the first trip down the driveway. I dug some old landscaping timbers out of the ground and put them out for the village to pick up.
I was tired when I quit, but as I walked toward the house I had one thought in mind. I am now ready, if the snow should come tonight I can handle it. In midlife we see equal times , a length of time gone by and what we think is how long our time on earth will be in front of us.
I now see a very long time behind me, (life gone by) and a big question mark in front of me. None of us know the time we have on this earth. I also see my mind getting better and my body not cooperating with my mind. I think I can do something but the body says, "wait a minute, I have something to say about that now, you have to take me into consideration. " I used to be able to abuse my body and it would cooperate, no more. I am not complaining, I am in good health and my body treats me well in almost every situation.
The greatest mysteries we have are how long we will be here and what condition will we be in as the years pass.
I often pray about this and ask for healing and health and happiness, I keep getting those two words back from God, "Trust Me."

We should be ashamed.

I just went to the movie, "The Departed", I came out thinking only one thing. I have tons of laundry to wash the ones coming out of storage and also the ones being put away. I wear a lot of sweaters so they need to be sorted and some replaced because they were washed too many times last year. So if anyone is looking for a gift for me, it is "sweaters".
When I got home from church yesterday I opened the front door and began to remove the screen on the storm door and install the glass panels.
As I was working people were driving up Center Street and looking at me. I didn't, but I wanted to shout to them, "what are you looking at, the cold weather is coming and there is nothing we can do about it. I have to do this or I won't be able to afford to heat my house."
I am almost 70 years old, how many times have I repeated this task, but that is not the question at 69, it is how many more times will I do this. That is the biggest mystery in our lives.

God works in strange but wonderful ways.

I have been struggling with allergies for about a year and a half. I was very concerned because cold weather is upon us soon and it makes the dry skin and itching worse.
I began to pray for healing from this terrible curse. While having breakfast with a friend, she saw the problem with my hands and prayed for healing also. The next time I saw her she handed me a vial with a liquid in it for my hands. Before useing it I read the label and it said " bee products can cause allergic reaction in some people." This rang a bell for me, could that be the root of my problem, I had been eating a lot of honey in my coffee and on oatmeal in the morning. Was I contributing to my own problem, instead of the honey acting as a treatment for allergies was it aggravating them. 6% of people are allergic to Bee products and it works just the opposite for them.
God answered my prayer, he just used another person who didn't even realize she was being used. My symptoms are much better, and getting better every day. He used another person, but she indicated that she did not have a problem with that, that was why she was on this earth.
Thank you God.

Is this global warming

Last year the country experienced 18 tropical storms. The devastation was horrible. Katrina damage won't be repaired for a while because we haven't gotten the destruction repaired in Florida from the hurricane season the year before.
We just had rain and high water a couple of weeks ago that we thought could flood out 9N north of the village. Today is the same thing, only this time the river came up over the road so only one lane was open. I heard on the scanner that the entrance to Crossgates Mall was under 4 ft of water.
I looked at the levels and flows on the internet for Sacandaga Reservoir and the Hudson River north of us, it didn't look like the water was that high.
The reason the many dams on the river were built was to prevent this kind of flooding and for as many years as I can remember we have not had water over the road.
Is this global warming affecting our weather etc. ?

I lost a friend

I lost a friend the other day, her name was Cora Mozler.
There are people in this world who abuse people in my family every day. She helped people even on the last days of her life when she was suffering the most.
Cora you were a great lady, a great person, you will never be forgotten.

Mother's Day

I have been away for a while, life is very busy, I had 2 websites and 2 blogsites, I guess it was too much to maintain them all.
Today is Mother's Day. This is a day to honor our mothers if they are alive and to remember them if they have passed on.
I would like to remember my mother today, and honor her too. I am sure she is in heaven and I can't wait to see her.
My mother was the disciplinarian of the family, so she stood right out in our lives. She wanted to bring up her kids to be good people so she felt discipline was necessary and she acted accordingly.
I can remember criticizing her as a child and thinking she was too hard on us. A couple of years ago I went to a function at school where a man talked about the way to bring your kids up to be good people and how to do it. My mother could have taught that class, because it was exactly the way she was.
My mother was a christian, and proud of it. We were in church every Sunday, every Wednesday and any other time the door opened.
Mom, you were not perfect like the rest of us, but you certainly did the best you could, and I love you for it. This site is about details of the Adirondacks and things in my life.
The weather is not good right now, freezing rain and snow predicted. I was supposed to be in Saratoga tonight, but I left the interior light on in my car last night when I came home. I didn't move my car all day so it had all night and day to run the battery down, it did a good job of it in that amount of time. Oh well, it was not meant to be, I should not be traveling in the freezing rain anyway. The charger is on the battery and will be there all night.
We have to look forward to this for the next 2 months at least. I have been around almost 69 years and I have never seen it fail yet. Those who ski just love it, but I am not one of those people.

Shoveling snow

I faithfully changed the oil and the spark plug on my snowblower this year. When I finished I pulled the rope and it started right up just like a good snowblower. No problem, when the first snow came, I went out to use it without any thought that it would not start. But it didn't.
I had to shovel the whole driveway, something I haven't done since I was a kid. Believe me it is not the same. All I could think of was what my former boss used to tell me at work. He would give me a project to do that was huge and could not be done immediately. I would say this is going to take a while, it is so big. He would say, "do it just like you would eat an elephant, one bite at a time". I could not help but think of that as I shoveled. I had a big amount of snow to move (believe me the driveway is not as wide) and I could move only so much snow with each shovel full. Just keep shoveling and eventually it will be done. When I was a kid, I would shovel the whole driveway without stopping. I am almost 69 now, it took 3 rest periods to finish it. The elephant seemed bigger at 69 than it did at 17. I hope the snowblower comes back before the next storm. I've had my fill of elephant.

Back Home

I just returned home from a trip to Chicago, what a treat that was. I had a chance to spend some time with my Grandson, Will Haskell, and my daughter Lisa, it was great.
I lived in Chicago 45 years ago so that made it extra special. I was able to see the apartment house I lived it while I was there and the place I went to school. It is not a school anymore, they are totally renovating it, but the name DeVry is still in the concrete on the front door way.
Travelling is great, I wish I could do more of it. She was loving and kind, she did not have an agenda for the relationship, we just enjoyed each others company, and did many things together. It was a godsend for both of us and we loved each other and every minute we had together.
I will miss you Sandy, I know you are now in God's hands. The car did not fare as well. But cars can be replaced, we could never replace her. I am so glad she is ok.
Another daughter-in-law had major heart problems and ended up in the CCU. I cannot believe this could have happened so rapidly. I will continue to pray for her, and I am asking you to pray for her too. She is not out of danger yet and she needs our prayers. Her family also needs our prayers.
We often talk about God having the picture window that he looks thru, and we have the very narrow window, it is difficult now to have only that narrow view to see out of. I have worried about my heating system for several years, it was noisy, started hard, (with a big boom) and kept me on pins and needles when I went away. I won't have to worry about that anymore, I put a new furnace in today. It hardly makes a sound so it won't keep me awake at night like the old one did. It won't make me worry if it will continue to run when the temp gets down to zero and below.
I think the winter will be different this year. I have been watering mine for day, it is still brown. I will have to get the fertilizer out and spread it and water it in since the weatherman is not predicting a lot of rain.
In the spring we mow the lawn every few days, and it is downhill from there. I mow mine less and less as the summer progresses and it looks less healthy at the same time.
Later this afternoon I will spread some Scott's and let it kill the weeds and grow the grass. Then I can go back to mowing it more often again.

The good times

We are in the middle of the "good times" in the Adirondacks. I get up in the morning and open the doors, and let the cool air in. I can't do that in January.
Let us enjoy this time, it will not last long. I believe God gave us these times to enjoy, and to look to him as the creator. Wow, can you believe it, 50 years. I won't say it doesn't seem like it was a long time ago that we graduated, but it certainly doesn't feel like 50 years.
We will gather today at Marti Willits camp on Hunt Lake and just enjoy seeing and visiting with those people we knew then as young adults. Then we wanted to be considered grown up, now we would love to be young adults again.
Lord, please favor us with good weather, and be with and confort those who have lost loved ones in the past few days. I can't do any of these things when it is raining or at 90+ degrees all of the time.
We were fortunate that we didn't have a mudslide like Bolton Landing had. I see Harley's and Honda's all over the place, at the restaurants, the bars, the soft ice cream vendors.
I still remember how much fun it was to ride my Honda Gold Wing. June was the motorcyclist month, the weather was great, and everyone came to Lake George for the Americade.
The last year I owned the Gold Wing I only drove it 300 miles so I sold it. What a big mistake that was. Soon after, the company I worked for didn't want me around any more because I was 60 years old, so I retired rather than going insane with the harassment from my boss. I have kicked myself many times for selling the bike. They represent great times, great people, and lots of good clean fun. A pastor once said when Jesus said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do" he was cleaning up his side of the street.
I have had to forgive people for things that my friends say they cannot believe that anyone could forgive. It is difficult if you do not keep in mind that it is for your own benefit. But it is a big struggle when those things are extreemly cruel or uncaring or go on for long periods of time. Another thing I struggle with is when I submit and struggle and forgive all of those who have done me wrong, and then I do not get forgiven for the things I have done. Thank you God that you have forgiven me.
God give me the strength to continue to forgive, and to forgive and love those who do not forgive me.

Life is Hectic

Life is hectic in retirement. I still remember 9 years ago thinking before I retired, what will I do to fill in the many hours freed up by retiring. I said to myself, "will I have enough to do so that I won't fall into depression or something. Wow, what a surprise.
I just returned from a trip to the facinating city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, where my granddaughter was married, what a great time that was, good trip to Montreal, good flight on a 737 to Halifax in one hour and ten minutes. Great time with family on the trip up and while there. Great hotel, The Future Inn. Great rehearsal dinner where the 2 families met, great ceremony by Dean my son who has been officiating at weddings for over 20 years, who said "it sure is different when it is your own daughter. I saw a tear or 2 when she did such a marvelous job singing at her own wedding. I can understand that, I have cried many times hearing my kids speak or sing or perform. Parents do that.
I now see in the immediate future meetings, dinners, BBQ's, and last but not least, games of golf, which seem to take up more of the day, and at the end affect the rest of the day, because of your decreased energy level at 68 years old.
But I also think of some who are not as fortunate, who do sit and watch tv and do fall into depression, who do look feverishly to find something interesting to fill the hours of their day. I thank God every day for the meetings, the dinners, the golf game as bad as it is sometimes. I thank God for my family all 5 kids, all 11 grand children. I thank God that they are healthy productive people who are caring and compassionate. And able to work hard and go to bed tired each night. I thank God for my retirement and the many things I do, and enjoy. May there be many more years of the same.

Rain

Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain.
The Adirondacks are getting their share of the rain. I try to take a different route, and see different views of the town each day. But at the same time I try to connect with the River walk each day as close to the Library as possible, where it starts. As I walked today, the river seemed more beautiful than usual, maybe because of every tree and plant waking up from the long winter and really beginning to feel the warmth of the sun.
As I approached the Curtis Park, I thought, what a great place to have my devotions each morning, what a quiet and beautiful place it is. Close to the river but sourrounded by the beautiful trees and grass. Close to God who created it all. What a great place to study his Word and get closer to him at the same time.

A Down Day

Today is a down day, the flu or a cold has a grip on my body and really cramping my style. What a great thing it is to be able to build it. The fire company has survived with their cramped quarters for many years. I am very glad to help them in any way to obtain the new facility. It is so great also that Teresa Sayward would come all the way down from where she lives to attend this and so many other events that she works into her busy schedule. It is like the earth and trees and grass are waking up and yawning as the sun hits them and they feel the first warm rays. The snow is still hiding some parts of the earth but soon that will not be.
The buds will soon be on the branches, and that is a sure sign of spring. We wonder when spring is coming, but the trees and the Geese and Robins seem to know.
