The Rageing River

I just received a call from Robert Foltan, the Chief Engineer for the Hudson River Black River Regulating District. He told me they were releasing 7200 cfs soon and the river level would rise substantially. I drove by the river this morning and as it approached the Curtis Falls it began to speed up and became a rageing torrent.
I thought of the verses in scripture where the Israelites were carrying the Arc of the Covenant and came to the Jordan River. Unless you knew you would think they stepped into a stream with 6 inches of water and it was not a big deal. God told them if they would step into the river he would part the waters. This is often used as an example of a step in faith where we need to take the first step and then God will help us to cross the river in front of us.
The Israelites stepped into a river much like the Hudson is right now, it was a big deal and a big step in faith. We have to remember that God never fails us, if we will take that step, even if it is into a Rageing Torrent, He will be there for us.
